Strategic capacity planning

Description

Capacity planning decisions play a very significant role in the results of companies, as they are part of their strategic plans to launch new products and new businesses, while requiring large capital investments and having long-term consequences. Specifically, in this line, we have worked both with companies in the manufacturing industry and with service companies, such as knowledge-intensive organizations (consulting or engineering) where capacity is determined mainly by the number and composition of their staff.

In this context, the research line has two main objectives. On the one hand, the strategic capacity planning problems of the production line are analyzed. These problems may be related to the size, location and programming over time of extensions or reductions in capacity, or the renewal or subcontracting of assets, among others. On the other hand, models are designed and the corresponding procedures for solving the type of problems detected are determined.
