Research stay at the Zero Hunger Lab of the Universitat de Tilburg to fight food insecurity

Jan 31, 2026

Lecturer Marc Juanpera Gallel and PhD student Pol Gil Figuerola have completed a five-month research stay at the Zero Hunger Lab at Tilburg University (Netherlands). During their stay, they worked on the following topics related to food insecurity and access to adequate and healthy food:

- Food distribution to vulnerable populations: They studied how food banks can establish strong and stable commitments with local food agencies. The goal is to support better planning of final deliveries to families and ensure a more stable food supply over time, reducing the mental distress that often accompanies food insecurity and the variability of food donations.

- ENHANCE Project: They continued their collaboration with the World Food Programme, supporting access to the ENHANCE decision support tool for recommending sustainable, affordable, and healthy food baskets.
